I Go Among Trees

.... Wendell Berry

I go among trees and sit still.
All my stirring becomes quiet
around me like circles on water.
My tasks lie in their places
where I left them, asleep like cattle.

Then what is afraid of me comes
and lives a while in my sight.
What it fears in me leaves me,
and the fear of me leaves it.
It sings, and I hear its song.

Then what I am afraid of comes.
I live for a while in its sight.
What I fear in it leaves it,
and the fear of it leaves me.
It sings, and I hear its song.

After days of labor,
mute in my consternations,
I hear my song at last,
and I sing it.  As we sing,
the day turns, the trees move.

there are outbreaks of bird-song.
The winter sun has found the sky again
and has reached into its heart
to be this late blossoming
that is now your soul
dancing up into your eyes.

you are this bathing beauty of the day
immersed in the grace of a singing ocean
that overflows the lands chill dreams.
You are a song-bird of your spirit
lighter then any shadow.

you remember that there will be a Spring
and that if you stay alert to its arrival;
if you keep your hands open
in a grateful readiness to receive,
then the sun will pour out of your heart
and you shall suddenly bloom
just as you do now.

Listening to Myself ...

… Eva Karczag

Listening To myself, and To my surroundings,
To the song that rises from this moment in which I am contained –
These dances rise up inside of me and spin out beneath me,
And it’s as if I stand back, inside myself and observe…
Available to constant flow and change,
I can balance at the edge of the unknown,
and experience fearlessness.

A Morning Offering

I bless the night that nourished my heart
To set the ghosts of longing free
Into the flow and figure of dream
That went to harvest from the dark
Bread for the hunger no one sees.

All that is eternal in me
Welcome the wonder of this day,
The field of brightness it creates
Offering time for each thing
To arise and illuminate.

I place on the altar of dawn:
The quiet loyalty of breath,
The tent of thought where I shelter,
Wave of desire I am shore to
And all beauty drawn to the eye.

May my mind come alive today
To the invisible geography
That invites me to new frontiers,
To break the dead shell of yesterdays,
To risk being disturbed and changed.

May I have the courage today
To live the life that I would love,
To postpone my dream no longer
But do at last what I came here for
And waste my heart on fear no more.
